Gifts

Christmas is here and we’ve just put up our tree! I unapologetically love this season, the tourists, and the music that comes with it. Yes, it’s the same every year and I know I’m supposed to hate it, according to the unspoken musician code, but I just can’t get enough.

Christmas is a busy time of year for musicians. It’s also time for me to take stock of all of the wonderful things in my life, and to remind myself to hold onto them in the new year. Here’s a small list of the things in my life that give me warm fuzzy feelings:

  1. A beautiful apartment in the Village with a living room and great light.

  2. A family that I love more than anything in the world, and that loves me too.

  3. Relatives that would do anything to see our kids and help us keep our dreams alive, whatever that might look like.

  4. A closeness to God that’s stronger now than it’s ever been.

  5. A stubborn streak that won’t let me quit anything I set my heart on.

  6. Some FABULOUS new headshots.

in the new year, I know that the job I have now will be over, and I’ll be sad that I have nothing while other players will be swimming in work. Of all the gifts I have, work will never be one of them: my fate is sealed in having to win my work and prove every day that I deserve it. I don’t live in a reality where a magic phone call or email will change my life, and this list helps me accept that. This list of precious gifts that I have is unique to me, and I wouldn’t be the same without it. Happy Holidays to everyone that might not have exactly what they want, but would never have it any other way. ❤️🎄
